The Board - from left to right: Alexander Wentz (Chairman of the Board), Leon Boey (Treasurer), Claudia Koch (Secretary), Peter Koch (Deputy Board), Zackarias Mooney (Founding Member), Sol Corfield (Founding Member), Ragino Fagner (Founding Member).
Alexander Wentz was born and raised in Karlsruhe, Germany. Passionate about diving for years, the Livingseas Conservation project captivated him so much after his first coral planting day in Bali in 2022 that he set himself the goal of moving this sustainable work from pure vacation pleasure to a more grounded basis. His goal to give more voice to the importance and significance of the ocean in the field of environmental protection was realized by founding a non-profit association in Karlsruhe to promote the idea in Europe.
Alexander has many years of professional experience in educational work with unaccompanied minor refugees in Karlsruhe.
His commitment to social and environmental projects manifests itself in his board work for various projects, which he has been leading and supervising for years
Peter Joachim Koch is an SSI diving instructor with more than 30 years of diving experience and 10 years of teaching experience in Bali. Born and raised in Karlsruhe, Germany, he has been involved in sustainability and environmental protection for many years. In 2013, he decided to move his life to Bali and managed a German-speaking dive centre in Padang Bai for years. Faced with the daily confrontation of the desolate state of the underwater world, Peter is now one of the Livingseas Ocean Conservationists.
Peter studied business administration, majoring in bank management in Germany, and has 20 years of professional experience as a product manager in the banking IT sector. His dedicated environmental consciousness and his attentiveness towards nature have motivated him to give Livingseas Foundation more voice as an association in Germany.
Claudia Maria Koch is an experienced SSI scuba instructor and a dedicated ocean conservationist at Livingseas Asia. Her focus lies in reef restoration work as well as the implementation of waste solutions on land. Joining the reef restoration project for the first time, it never let her go and she shifted her focus from recreational diving to environmental work. Her goal is to inspire other people to take action and realize the meaning and importance of marine life.
Claudia has 20 years of professional experience as an IT product manager in Germany and studied Sociology and Literature at the University of Mannheim with a Master of Arts degree.
She has been living and working in Padang Bai, Bali for 10 years. As the only woman on the Board, she brings everybody together because of her warm, open, and direct way of communication.
Leon Boey was born in Singapore and is an accomplished scuba instructor based in Singapore and Bali and the founder of the dive education centre Livingseas Asia.
Diving since 2005 he loves being surrounded by fish. Having dived many places and seen firsthand the gradual degradation of the reef over time, he started to take a more serious approach towards conservation and became one of the first ocean conservationists here in Bali.
Conservation has become Leon’s mission and thus one of the core values of Livingseas through the creation of multiple coral reef rehabilitation projects in Jakarta, Bali, and Lombok, along with a sustainable approach to dive operations and education.
Leon's knowledge of corals and marine ecosystems is immense and the way he approaches and implements his vision is unparalleled due to his focused work.
Prof. Dr. Markus Sauer studied Physical Chemistry at the University of Heidelberg. In 1998 he was awarded the BioFuture Prize for Detection, Analysis, and Handling of Single Molecules, which allowed him to establish his own group for single-molecule fluorescence detection and single-molecule DNA sequencing. Since 2009 he is Professor and Chair of the Department of Biotechnology and Biophysics at the Julius Maximilian University Würzburg, Germany.
.Without being an active diver, he had already realized early on that the blue part of the planet had been given too little consideration in the search for ways out of the crisis. Working closely with his sister Claudia Maria Koch, he became fascinated by the idea of marine ecosystems as carbon reservoirs and is now involved in research on reef restoration.
Ragino Fagner is an emergency paramedic and has been working in the offshore industry and international aid services since 2014. As an active rescue diver, he has always been passionate about the ocean and became involved in Livingseas' coral conservation project in Bali in 2022. Thrilled by the project and its measurable success, it quickly became clear that he wanted to continue his involvement in marine conservation.
Through his active participation in international humanitarian and disaster relief missions in various countries, Fagner is familiar with the work and processes of NGO projects.
Since 2022, Fagner and his business partner have been offering medical solutions for the offshore industry and other sectors as AMS GmbH, based in Hamburg.
Sol Corfield, is a passionate nature enthusiast and conservation advocate coming from Argentina. She's been exploring the depths of our oceans through scuba diving since 2016, witnessing the alarming destruction of marine life firsthand.
Inspired by a visit to the Livingseas project in Bali, Sol knew she had found her calling. As an SSI rescue diver, she's dedicated to making a positive impact on our world by working towards the restoration of our oceans, ensuring they thrive for future generations.
Sol's journey extends beyond the ocean depths. Armed with a business degree, she embarked on her entrepreneurial journey at 18, founding her fitness and dance-oriented venture. She is driven by the power of passion and purpose to create positive change.
Zackarias Mooney, born and raised in Sweden, works since 2022 closely with Livingseas Foundation.
"Working with the ocean is both a blessing and a challenge. For me, it's always been the one thing I want to dedicate my life to. Working with marine projects and scientific research for the last 10 years is challenging, seeing the destruction of nature on a daily basis, but the goal has never been clearer. Livingseas is an organisation I'm proud to represent and everyday work towards a better future. Saving Reef Is Our Belief!"
